Training in Iyengar Yoga by CIYSP

This course will be coordinated and taught by Rosana Seligmann, with professors Agrippina Pakharukova (philosophy) and Michele Schultz (anatomy) as guests.

To follow training to become an Iyengar yoga teacher, you must have regularly practiced the Iyengar method with a certified teacher for a minimum of two years.

This training lasts three years, comprising one year of pre-training and two years of training. Final entry selection will be made at the end of the first year (the pre-training year).

The pre-training year will have two classes, one at the Centro Iyengar Yoga São Paulo (CIYSP) and the other at Premavati – Espaço de Yoga (Uberlândia). It consists of 60 hours of classes, 30 of which in meetings at Centro Iyengar Yoga SP or at Premavati and five days of intensive retreat in November, where the two classes will join, at Fazenda Pousada Maristela, in Tremembé.

This program is mainly aimed at studying and practicing Iyengar yoga. Practitioners thus acquire an evolutionary program of postures so that they can practice and study at home. In this first year, we will also address the analytical study of postures and elements of yoga philosophy.

Students will receive a bibliography that should be read and studied during the year. In the November intensives at Pousada Maristela we will receive Professor Agrippina who will teach philosophy classes based on the readings and work previously done by the students.

The pre-training program will allow the student to know if he really has the vocation for teaching yoga.

The training itself (2 years) will take place exclusively at the Centro Iyengar Yoga São Paulo and will be divided into 7 weekends in São Paulo and five days of intensive retreat outside of SP, per year. Just like teaching BKS Iyengar, this training is very demanding and takes time to practice and study (at least three hours a day for two years). On the other hand, after an evaluation period (if the student has passed these evaluations), it gives the right to a serious and internationally recognized certificate, issued by the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Puna and delivered by the Associação Brasileira de Iyengar Yoga. This certificate gives the right to teach yoga in the Iyengar method and is the guarantee of a very solid foundation in teaching yoga.

From the second year onwards, in addition to classes on asanas, pranayama, yoga pedagogy and philosophy, classes on anatomy and physiology applied to yoga will be included in the curriculum. These classes will be taught by Michele Schultz.

The adequacy of the asanas in therapeutic cases, the practice in the menstrual period and during pregnancy, how to observe and how to make adjustments will also be subjects of study during the formative years.
